Fantasy trapped-in-the-game LitRPG with two great women leads

Though Sally considers herself an avid gamer, she never indulged in MMORPGs, at least until her stepsister, Darcy, convinced her to give the popular Shadow’s Deep a chance. It was supposed to be an evening of dungeon raiding and level grinding, that is until Sally clicked the login icon and found herself trapped in the game world with Darcy.

With Shadow’s Deep now a life or death game, Sally and Darcy must quickly find others trapped within the game and form a party to survive. NPCs are no longer smiling pixels with scripted lines, but have their own motives and prejudices. And the monsters have sharp teeth that tear and draw blood.

Fortunately, Sally and the party are players, each with their own set of skills and abilities giving them an advantage in this world. They just have to overcome their own fears to tap into the bravery they never knew they possessed.

Engaging from beginning to end

I enjoyed reading this western-isekai story. The premise is that two sisters were playing an MMORPG patterned after tabletop gaming rules. They find themselves teleported into a world similar to the game they were playing. The women who were transported find themselves in new bodies with the instinctual knowledge of their abilities and memories of the world.

The game-world feels authentic. It's set as a medieval fantasy setting. One of the women chose to play an elf, and many of the inhabitants show a high amount of prejudice and racism toward her for it.

I do find it interesting that the only other players they encounter are also women. It seems a bit too unlikely to be a coincidence, but none of the characters actually mentioned it. That's not a complaint, I just thought it was interesting and I found myself wondering if there was some design behind it.

One thing I didn't like was that the protagonists went to ridiculous extremes to keep their otherworldly origins secret. I guess I could see not advertising it, but I feel like they took it a bit too far. Their NPC companion pretty much figured out that something was strange about them, but they still didn't tell him because they thought it would make him suspicious. That didn't really work for me at a logical level, but that's just my opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Gamers from beginning to end. It's a fun and engaging story, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

If you are a fan of gamer lit/ litrpg, would like to see more female leads and solid character portrayal, try this.

Well written, non cliche, well paced - very well paced, you actually have time to just get to know the characters with enough happening to make it worthwhile.

It is litrpg, but it's not got a ton of fast paced levelling.

She's done a thoughtful job of her lead characters and they fit well together.

The setup is unusual and instead of being distractingly similar to others, she avoids the cliche and leaves you with a mystery that is barely hinted at.

If you are a fan of gamer lit/ litrpg, would like to see more female leads and solid character portrayal, try this.

Interesting take

This book has a new and interesting take on the genre. Yes, occasionally it has some elements some people may not like, but its not like the book is about politics like some people are suggesting. Its a great story, and a worthy addition to the genre. I can't wait for more :)

Gamers by Cambry Varner is spellbinding. A must read!

I found this book to be very exciting. The author managed to capture my attention and hold it completely from start to finish. It was as if the characters really came to life in my imagination and I could barely put it down to do anything else without wondering what would happen next. I loved the way the main characters bonded as if they had been together forever. I hope there will be a 2nd book that will continue their story and if so I will be 1st in line to buy and read it!!!!
