Ninetoes

Tim Andrews

What if an NPC dismissed with contempt by the players of your role-playing game was to become an adventurer?

Ninetoes is a wizard, which is unusual for a hobgoblin, and more unusual still, he’s no longer an NPC.

The world of Adrenon is a game world and a twist of fate has made Ninetoes an Adventurer. With this new status comes access to power, magic and skills that his kind can rarely attain, but more, it is a chance to grow and become the centre of his own story.

In his first quest, among the ancient ruins of Kavralach, Ninetoes faces danger and intrigue. Failure will mean the destruction of his home and his people, for whom he now has the potential to become their champion.

Ninetoes must master the magic system of the game, advance as rapidly as he can, and find friends. For a wizard alone is vulnerable.

If he can prevail, the hobgoblin Adventurer might someday become the hero he needs to be.

A true gem.

What I liked the most about this story, is that the main character is a hobgoblin.

I say this, as it somewhat reflects how he doesn’t see the world as a human would - which can sometimes explain murder hobo tendencies he shows.
On top of this, the world feels rich and real, and the characters are fun.

I plan to read book 2.

** I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review **
This was an interesting take on the litRPG genre, one that i hope gets explored more in future releases. When Ninetoes suddenly realizes he's an Adventurer, he's off to become the hero. Book has Stat's but not over much, no huge infodump, it is well written and fun to read.

I found it very appealing and immersive. Ninetoes, the main character, has been thrust into a situation where he doesn't know how much control he has. The fun part is him figuring all that out, with the help of his squirrel "familiar". Great fun!

An epic first book by this new author. Instantly immersed in Ninetoe’s world and willing him to succeed in his endeavours the pages create vivid descriptions of the fantasy world he inhabits. His growing bond to his familiar gives the story an underlying warmth unexpected in a novel such as this. The battles draw you in and the creatures send shivers from the pages.

I’ve read many fantasy books in my life, however none of those were as much as a page turner as this one. I found myself limiting my reading to only 1 chapter a night just because i didn’t want it to end. This has the fantasy of Tolkien, the humour of Terry Pratchett and a back story that is so original your surprised nobody has thought of it before. 5 stars hands down, I cant wait for more.
